The first is that we’ve now set up a CCP research email group, like the existing CCP members’ group, but specifically to support discussion and sharing about psychotherapy research.

And the other is that we’re trying out digital recordings of the RSG meetings, so if you missed the last meeting on 7 November you can now download and listen to a recording. BBC iPlayer watch out!

For more details on both these developments, please go to our Community page. And please note that all CCP members will shortly receive an email from the BeeLeaf office about a new password to access the Community page.

Feedback has shown us that the widest held desire from this slot is a Clinical Practice Group, with specific reference to the Case Studies requirement for Registration. These peer-lead groups will provide a supplement to, not a replacement of, peoples’ existing Clinical Supervision and are intended to fulfil peoples’ thirst for ongoing modality specific discussion and support, relevant to their case studies and research ideas.

Note: Attendance can be counted as Continuing Professional Development. It is your responsibility to obtain a signature from the Group Leader on your CPD Log.

Future Dates

12th December 2009
Subject: Peer Vision of Participants’ Case Studies

All meetings take place from 10.00am to 1.00pm on the 6th Floor, Physics Building, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), 327 Mile End Road, London E1 4NS (view street map or campus map, courtesy of QMUL), about 8 minutes’ walk west from Mile End tube station.

A subsidised fee of £7 per session will be charged to participants. Each session will have a nominated group facilitator.

These groups are for CCP members only. Booking is not necessary, but places are limited, and are prioritized for those on the Clinical Practice unit of the Diploma or on the Advanced Diploma.

The change of name for this service is to emphasise that the purpose of the groups is to support trainee and accredited psychotherapists to meet their Masters level study and project requirements in research for Registration as a Psychotherapist with BeeLeaf and UKCP.

To this end, we will be bringing in two experienced researchers as new Group Leaders with a variety of experience in NHS and other sites of psychotherapy research, offering support of a range of research methods and studies relevant to psychotherapy, and with a passion to support Psychotherapists to learn about and achieve credible research in their field, with a view to publication in relevant journals.

The core themes of the RSGs will be the projects and proposals of trainees and members. Suggested research papers for group study will usually be nominated by trainees as relevant to their projects. Group Leaders will also be available to advise and reassure regarding the steps to complete a proposal and project and to facilitate peer support and discussion in these endeavours.

Note: Attendance can be counted as Continuing Professional Development. It is your responsibility to obtain a signature from the Group Leader on your CPD Log.

Future Dates

October 10th 2009 – Group Leaders: Selena Chandler and Elizabeth Butters
Subject: TBC based on previous meeting

Subject: TBC Two Presentations of Completing Research Projects by BeeLeaf Members

January 9th 2010 – Group Leader: TBC

A subsidised charge of £15 per session will be applicable to attendees who are not enrolled on the Research Dissertation Unit.

These groups are for CCP members only. Booking is not necessary, however in order to fully participate in the group, participants will be expected to read before arrival the paper under discussion, which will be circulated to all CCP members and posted on the Research e-forum.

We have been taking extensive feedback through many channels regarding the Saturday Groups for members and are relaunching this service with comprehensive changes in response to member needs and desires. We can assure that all feedback is regarded by BeeLeaf to be significant and helpful and our staff have had several meetings over the last few months figuring out what has made attendance low and how the groups have not been meeting their objectives.

From September 2009 the groups will be taking on two dynamic new formulae that are intensely focussed on prioritising the needs of the students and members and upholding the identity and purpose of BeeLeaf and CCP as a community serving best standards in psychotherapy training, provision and development. We have received some excellent suggestions from trainees and members about changes, big and small, and these will be incorporated into the new structure of the groups. Please do your part to make these new services work for all.

As you know BeeLeaf has been sponsoring the running of a monthly Practice Group for its members. Numbers and feedback have told us that an NLP-type Practice Group does not best serve members’ needs as there are a range of great groups of this kind up and down the country that are closer to people’s home and set up especially to meet these desires. Instead, we want to go back to the idea that BeeLeaf practice groups should specifically serve the needs of members and trainees building their path towards professional practice and registration.

So from September the Practice Groups will have a new format that has more relevance and is more akin to the identity of the community by focussing the time on Case Studies. The emphasis will be on cases brought by participants to support the Case Study element of the Diploma assignments and to supplement Clinical Supervision with modality specific peer and group Supervision, with hours that can be added to your Continuing Professional Development Log.

Please watch this space for further details, and in the meantime I’m sure we would all like to join in thanking Tracy Jarvis for having organised the program of Practice Groups over the last months.

If you’ve attended any of the Research Interest Group (RIG) meetings that Tom Werner has facilitated over the past year, you’ll probably have had an email from Tom or Pam about a RIG Evaluation 2008-2009 survey that Tom is conducting.

It is most important that anyone who has attended a RIG over the year fills this in so that we can continue to improve the RIGS along with all aspects of the training so that people’s needs are best met.

Even if you have already given informal feedback verbally or in writing to Pam or the office, please take the short time to fill in the questionnaire (click on the link above) so that your feedback can be processed in an efficient manner.
